We are delighted to celebrate an incredible achievement within our team – Thabo Mhlongo from Hotel in the Park has been named Best Newcomer at the National Learning Disability Awards 2026.
Thabo joined the team in May and has made a remarkable impression from day one. He quickly settled into his role, becoming a valued and trusted member of the team while already making a meaningful difference to the people we support.
With a natural empathy and a strong understanding of complex needs and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Thabo brings both skill and compassion to his work. His ability to build genuine, trusting relationships stands out, and the feedback from families has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have shared how calm, kind, and supportive he is, and how their loved ones have formed strong bonds with him during their respite stays.
Thabo’s gentle and reassuring approach helps people feel at ease, particularly those who may feel anxious about spending time away from home. By creating a safe and welcoming environment, he plays an important role in supporting individuals to feel comfortable and confident during their stay.
He consistently places the people we support at the heart of everything he does and truly embodies our values in his day-to-day work. This award is a well-deserved recognition of his dedication, compassion, and positive impact.
We would also like to congratulate our fantastic finalists, Oana Tinca and Loretta Ionita. Your commitment and achievements make us incredibly proud, and it is wonderful to see your hard work recognised at a national level.
Congratulations, Thabo- a brilliant achievement and very well deserved.
