About Outward

Outward is a forward-thinking and inclusive charity supporting people to live with dignity and purpose. For more than 40 years, Outward has been providing high-quality support and care services to vulnerable people in London. We believe in engaging, enabling and empowering the people we support to make positive choices, have genuine control over their lives, play an active role in the community, take advantage of opportunities to develop as individuals and live the lives they want.

Outward is a registered charity and part of The Newlon Group. We are run by a group of committed volunteers – our Board of Trustees. We provide care and support services, mainly across north and east London, to support a range of vulnerable people towards improved choice and greater independence, including; those who have experienced street homelessness

About the Role

This is an exciting chance for you to join our Hub Club Team, providing day opportunities for people with a learning disability in Hackney. Every activity we do at the Hub Club empowers people we support to engage and work with the local community, exciting charities and the fantastic museums, galleries and art spaces across London, among other community activities, so everything we do in Hub Club has meaning and purpose.

As an Activity Worker you would support the activities run by Outward’s Hub Club, an innovative community day opportunity service in Hackney. The Activity Worker will support and lead on the sessions the Hub Club provides and ensure all activities are personalised and appropriate for the people attending. The Activity Worker will be responsible for ensuring pick-ups and drop offs of attendees using public transport and to ensure that the attendees and their circle of support have an active decision making role in the service. The role is varied and will involve personal care.

If you feel you can bring a fresh approach, new ideas and a commitment to supporting people with a learning disability to have genuine control over their lives, play an active role in the community and develop as individuals, then we want to hear from you. Each day at the Hub Club is different, we are looking new people to join our team who have:

  • The enthusiasm to support, coach and motivate people.
  • A friendly, honest and open nature
  • A willingness to keep learning is more important than your experience.

You will work among energetic people with lots of enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference to people’s lives.

Positive behaviour Support

Outward Housing supports people who are known to present behaviours of concern by using the Positive Behaviour support model because PBS puts the person first.

PBS is pro-active and the main focus is getting the environment right for the individual, rather than responses/reactions following challenging behaviour and on better supporting the person through improving their quality of life.

PBS approaches are based on a set of values of enabling inclusion, choice, participation and equality of opportunity. PBS is about working in partnership with the person, their family, staff and professionals.

Existing knowledge/experience in following the PBS approach would be beneficial but not essential as we do provide extensive training. A shared value of understanding and supporting a person’s behaviour and finding ways to work with them to improve this is essential.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults at risk and expect all staff to share this commitment. If the post you apply for involves working with or having access to adults at risk and/or their records, we will require an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Services. This will be fully subsidised by Outward.

We value everything our Activity Workers do for the people we support so we provide a great benefits package:
