2017 was another busy year for our Volunteer Club

19th January 2018

Our Volunteer Club volunteers were really busy last year, doing what they do best, i.e. giving up their time and energy to improving other people's lives.

Volunteer Club last year was run by Cornelia Barbour-St Helen, who did a wonderful job of galvanising our volunteers and getting the most out of them.

Here she runs through some of the highlights from 2017...

"There have been lots of changes involving Outward Volunteer Club this year, from staff changes to new exciting volunteer opportunities. However, these changes have not stopped our volunteers from continuing their commitment and dedication to working in partnership with our volunteer partners, The Paint Place, Green Gym and Canal & River Trust."

"One of our most popular projects this year has been The Paint Place. This is a recycling project in Leytonstone that recycles used unwanted paint for reusing. The Paint Place not only recycles paint but resells the paint to support communities."

"Imagine an outdoor exercise class where you're not only working on your own health and fitness, you're also helping create brand new green spaces in your local community parks and woodlands!  Well, that's Green Gym in a nutshell! Our volunteers especially enjoyed the butterfly count. They counted, named and recorded all the butterflies in a stretch of woodland in Waltham Forest."

"Customers in Enfield especially felt they made a great difference to both their own health and wellbeing working to clean, clear and prepare Enfield canal and river ways and woodlands environment, volunteering with the Canal & River Trust."
