Going going gone! Jeremy Corbyn MP buys Richard's prized painting at Outward art exhibition

19th January 2018

Richard is an Outward customer and prolific artist who has lived at Cutbush House in Islington for 11 years. One of his dreams was to host an exhibition of his paintings. His other dream was to meet Jeremy Corbyn, his local member of parliament. Just before Christmas, both of these dreams came true!

Richard was supported by his keyworker Juliana to invite Mr. Corbyn to an art exhibition on the 22nd December. They were both thrilled when Jeremy accepted the invitation. Richard and Juliana then worked alongside other staff at Cutbush House to set up the exhibition, which also featured art by other Outward customers, to invite other guests and to commission a portrait of Jeremy, which was presented to him at the event.

The exhibition was a huge success, attended by lots of Outward staff, customers and Richard's friends and relatives. A highlight of the evening was Mr. Corbyn bidding to buy one of Richard's paintings.

Initially Richard was reluctant to part with his painting of the beautiful HMS Warrior, which was inspired by a visit to Portsmouth. However, Jeremy convinced him that he would give it a good home. In the end, Richard graciously accepted the offer!

We hope to see the painting hanging in his office one day, or maybe even in Number 10 Downing Street...
