Mental Health

From 2002, Outward have run a number of schemes that provide long-term housing and floating support for people who have suffered from mental health problems.

We offer flexible and tailored support to meet every tenant's needs.  Both practical and emotional support is provide with the aim of helping to prepare tenants to live as independently as possible.

Help we can provide includes:

Assistance with welfare benfits, repairs, health and safety.

Assistance with daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, budgeting, medication.

Accessing local amenities in areas such as education, employment, leisure activities and voluntary work.

Ongoing emotional support and enhanced support through any mental health crises or distress a tenant may experience.

Support needs are discussed and agreed with each tenant so that we can work to identify what is important to each individual and what sort of support they would like. From this, we can work together to build their own support plan, describing what support will be provided and how the different services will work together to help each tenant and to ensure that they receive the support they need.

We currently have three schemes for people with low support needs and a scheme for men with "medium" needs, who benefit from staff being present seven days a week. All service shave access to a first and second tier On Call service.

Most of the schemes are owned by Newlon Housing Trust and housing management services are provided by Outward.

We aslo have a number of clients who have mental health support needs and who receive 1:2:1 support from members of the Outreach team. These clients live independently in various forms of tenure.

Our staff who provide floating support visit allocated projects, whilst others are based at the project so they are available to respond to the changing needs of tenants.

Each tenant is assigned a key worker.  The keyworker meets with them every week to address specific issues set out in the support plan. Tenants and their care manager from Social Services are invited to regular reviews of the tenant's individual suport plan.

Each project has a weekly house meeting of tenants and staff to discuss the management of the service and to plan activties and informal time, including holidays and outings.
